Max Completes Marathon In Under 5 Hours
by Max For Montana
Max Baucus, Montana's longest-serving U.S. Senator, completed his 9th career marathon in less than 5 hours in Billings in late September.
Max, a 66-year-old Helena native, ran in the Montana Marathon, which takes runners on a 26.2 mile jaunt from the town of Molt to Daylis Stadium in downtown Billings.
Max ran his first marathon, the Governors Cup, in 1979 in Helena and has competed in races- ranging from 5k fun walks to marathons – ever since. In 2003, Max completed a 50-mile ultra-marathon in Maryland, where he finished in just over 12 hours.
"I made no predications on my time," Max quipped. "I just wanted to finish and have a good run with so many other Montanans."
"There are few things I love more than getting outside and going for a run," Max said. "To be able to get to do that in a place that has such beautiful scenery and wonderful people to run with is just an added bonus."
In 1995-96, Max walked the entire 820-mile length of Montana while campaigning for reelection.
