Max Helping To Set Aside 300,000 Acres For Hunting And Fishing

by Max For Montana

Montana Senator Max Baucus is helping broker an agreement that could potentially designate 300,000 acres of prime hunting and fishing land in western Montana for conservation.

On Friday, Baucus joined representatives from Plum Creek, the Trust for Public Land, and the Nature Conservancy on the Blackfoot River to announce that the groups were committed to pursue a plan that could designate the land, which would be the largest land conservation project in American history.

As chairman of the powerful U.S. Senate Finance Committee, Max included a Forest Conservation Bonding provision in recent legislation which would provide $250 million for land conservation programs.

"We are grateful for how hard Senator Baucus worked to create this new funding mechanism which will help us expand our forest conservation efforts in Montana," said Eric Love, The Trust for Public Land's Northern Rockies Director. "This isn't just about saving land; it's about preserving a way of life."
