Getting Seniors and Vets The Rebates They Deserve
by Max Baucus
Every time I get to come home, it’s so great to see all the exciting things that are happening around the state, and to meet with a lot of different folks. Over the last two weeks, I travelled across the state holding free tax clinics with seniors and disabled veterans to help make sure they got the economic stimulus rebate checks they deserve.
When the Congress and the President were drafting the economic stimulus package, they forgot to include nearly 20 million seniors and 250,000 veterans. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, I put the brakes on that real quick, because it’s not right that these citizens who supported our economy for years, or who were wounded serving our country, should be left out.
So I included provisions that will get these folks between $300-$600 dollars. However, folks had to fill out one extra form, so I wanted to make sure they had some professionals on hand to help them out.
The clinics were a great success, and starting in May folks should see their checks in the mail. If you are a senior or a disabled veteran, who doesn’t normally file an income tax return, you could be eligible too.
